public fucking announcement:
Please do not make generalizations because of what you see on tumblr. Tumblr’s extremist “Feminism” is a poor representation of what feminism really is. It’s fucking annoying when an obnoxious (and often misandrist) person (or people) label themselves as a Feminist (capital F) and then proceed to disrespect others’ opinions in a rude way and try to change the non-Feminist’s opinion using aggression instead of intelligence.
I’m a feminist, because I believe in “the advocacy of women’s rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men.” I am not part of a misandrist group determined to force people to align their beliefs with mine. I believe in advocating for women, not denouncing men. I also don’t call myself an egalitarian, because in my opinion I have no need to. I know many people who call themselves egalitarian because they believe that feminism is gender prejudiced against men, but again, I do not believe in denouncing men, I believe in equality.
Feminism has a pretty bad name, and a lot of people don’t want to call themselves a feminist (even though they believe in the definition of feminism) because of these hate-filled people who would rather yell and stomp their feet than actually educate others and produce change.
- I do not hate men.
- I do not want to force anyone into believing what I believe.
- I believe in gender equality and the equality of all people.
- I strive to change the world and advocate for women’s rights (since this is a very specific post I will be specific here, even though I advocate for many other things).
- I am a feminist.
- None of these statements are conflicting.
So please, before you decide that all feminists are extremist and maniacal man-haters who would rather yell at you and spam you with false information than actually discuss with you, remember that this is Tumblr, and it does not represent the world.
